Devon County Show
Website Design & Development
The Devon County Show is a key annual event in the county's agricultural calendar. Each year in May, approximately 100,000 people make their way to the showground at Westpoint, just outside of Exeter, to sample the best that the county has to offer... great food and drink; main ring entertainment features; prize livestock; equestrian events; rural crafts; flower show; dog show; vintage vehicles etc. It truly is 'Devon's BIG day out’. We have worked with the Devon County Show since 2008, creating and shaping a distinctive and colourful brand identity during that time.
The website is a ‘business critical’ tool that is used across all facets of the organisation - not just for marketing. The site was launched in January 2017 with the following objectives:
• Future proof for the next 3 - 5 years at least
• Provide a Return on Investment
• Reduce ongoing maintenance costs
• Provide better metrics for measuring performance
• Reflect the DCS’s core values around innovation and change
• Ensure ongoing engagement and drive visitor numbers
• Provide a better user experience by exploiting the opportunities offered by new technologies
Toucan has looked after the Show’s web provision for over eight years and has recently designed and developed a new site to better accommodate the use of mobile devices and the advancements in website coding. While Toucan is familiar with this client, the starting point of the most recent build-process was one of discussion – what did the client want, how could that be delivered better, how could we improve the customer-user experience etc.
The team are highly collaborative. They listen. They propose. And they keep on listening and guiding as they build and design the website as well as later when the site is live and fully operational. In the coming months and years ahead, I, and the client, will rely on the Toucan team to provide us with timely, and kind, support; currently they support our website and ‘go beyond the call of duty’ on occasion to keep the site live..
