The Exeter Symphony Orchestra is a member-led organisation that performs three or four concerts in the city each year. To ensure the orchestra's continued development and growth there was an agreement from the members that marketing activity should be significantly increased and that brand awareness be developed across the city and beyond.
A new brand identity, based upon a highly stylised treble clef symbol was developed and applied to a new public facing, fully mobile optimised, website and various printed materials including: concert programmes, publicity leaflets, posters and promotional banners. The suite of new work has been well received by both orchestra members and concert-goers alike with the last few concerts sold out.
Business wise, it was clear to me that we had to update our old website, which was ‘dated’ and also lacked modern functionality. Working with the Toucan team has been a joy, where they have very much understood the orchestra's heritage and ethos, but also firmly encouraged us to embrace a fresh and modern website, which now appeals to a much wider audience across a wide age demographic – something we needed to work on!
Toucan's creation of a new brand identity for us means that our website and advertising material all now carry a consistent style and approach, on which we have had only positive feedback. Within the orchestra, there has also been a noticeable pride on show, in respect of that change and ‘raising of the bar’. Long may that continue.
So, in summary, working with Toucan has been – easy, fun, inspiring and I and the orchestra are very grateful for their support, both the design work that we have paid for and also the voluntary support given to us and still being given to us in respect of the ‘strategy’ we need to look to build on over the coming years.
